Osaka YMCA International School

6-7-34 Nakatsu, Kita-ku, Osaka, 531-0071 Japan

Operated in the tradition of the YMCA, OYIS conducts an English-medium program for children as young as age 3. During homeroom sessions, children in grades 1-7 study English, language arts, social studies, math, and science and technology while following a structured model that makes interconnected themes and ideas apparent. Due to its importance, writing is an aspect of course work in each subject. Specialists teach music, physical education and Japanese as a Second Language (a course that also examines aspects of Japanese culture). With guidance from their instructors, pupils learn to research various topics independently. Speech and debate training assists older children with their presentational skills.
