Accepting children of average to above-average ability with dyslexia and other learning disabilities, Oakland provides a year-round academic curriculum stressing basic skills in one-on-one and small-class settings. The school specializes in the teaching of reading, math, written language and study skills. The school also offers a full recreational program, team sports, daily physical education and horseback riding. Those receiving ninth grade credits perform 20 hours of required community service per semester. Most students return to a traditional educational setting after two to four years.
