North Cross School
4254 Colonial Ave, Roanoke, VA 24018
Located on a 77-acre campus, North Cross was founded to provide college preparation for its students through a comprehensive program. A traditional core curriculum is the academic focus throughout the school and is supported by enrichment classes, electives, and a wide selection of cocurricular activities and athletic programs. The phonics-based lower school program (junior kindergarten through grade 5) includes an introduction to foreign languages in junior kindergarten, in addition to course work in music, art, computer and library skills. The middle school (grades 6-8) continues to provide boys and girls with a grounding in the fundamentals and features choral and instrumental music. The upper school curriculum includes electives in every discipline and a full complement of Advanced Placement courses. Seniors complete an extended research project and deliver a subsequent presentation to faculty and students. As part of its service program, the school devotes two school days per year to community work that involves much of the student body, faculty advisors, select staff members and parents.
