New York Military Academy

78 Academy Ave, Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY 12520

Drawing its enrollment from many states and foreign countries, this well-known academy was founded by Col. Charles J. Wright. The school became coeducational in 1976, and today girls play an important role in all school activities. The academic program is college preparatory, with special emphasis placed on science, mathematics, modern languages and composition. Science and the humanities are supplemented by numerous electives. Part of NYMA's technology program, a campuswide network enables all boarding cadets to have computer connections in their dorm rooms. A compulsory athletic program includes interscholastic sports and fitness training. In addition, students perform 50 hours of required community service in grades 9-12. The guidance department counsels early on college choices and career development. Graduates matriculate at traditional colleges and universities as well as the nation's five service academies.
