Offering elementary and middle school programs, the academy enrolls students who have not performed to potential in traditional school settings. Entering pupils, who typically score in the first or second quartile on standardized achievement tests in reading, language and math, may have diagnosed learning disabilities or attentional disorders. Some boys and girls have fallen behind their classmates despite no diagnosed learning difference. Morningside utilizes extensive assessments and research-based methods while teaching children to practice compensatory learning strategies. Instructors construct behavioral repertoires to correct skill deficits in the fundamental academic areas, inadequate learning skills (in such areas as goal setting, listening, noticing, reasoning, thinking, studying and organizing) and deficient performance skills. The month-long summer session features morning and afternoon reading, language, writing and math programming. The school accepts the following conditions: ADHD, Auditory Processing Disorders, Discalculia, Dysgraphia, Dyslexia, Learning Differences.
