Miami Valley School

5151 Denise Dr, Dayton, OH 45429

Dayton's only independent college preparatory school, Miami Valley strikes a careful balance among academic fundamentals, creative activities and extracurricular opportunities. The elementary program emphasizes the measurement of educational needs through individualized and group instruction in self-contained classrooms. Specific contacts in the community enable older pupils to enroll in college-level courses or take part in internships relating to business, government, industry or the arts. Independent study is available to eligible juniors and seniors, and March is reserved for in-depth seminars on selected subjects for those in grades 10-12. During the same time period, freshmen participate in a month of special academic and nonacademic pursuits. Boys and girls accumulate 75 hours of required community service in grades 9-12. Opportunities in sports, publications and the arts round out the upper school program. Local companies, foundations and parents support the school's scholarship program. Miami Valley has occupied a 22-acre site in Washington Township since 1966.
