Mead Hall Episcopal School

129 Pendleton St SW, Aiken, SC 29801

After serving elementary children for more than five decades, Mead Hall effected a merger with Aiken Preparatory School in June 2012, in the process adding a high school program. The high school division occupies the 12-acre former Aiken Prep campus on Barnwell Avenue Northwest. During the early years, Mead Hall introduces Spanish to its three-year-old children as a weekly enrichment class. The school places particular emphasis on cognitive and language/literacy skills during the primary grades. For older pupils, instructors teach the writing process through expressive, informative, persuasive and descriptive writing, as well as a discussion of comparison, classification, argumentation and definition. Boys and girls engage in various community outreach activities at all grade levels. Offerings in foreign language, art, computer and music complement the secondary students' foundation in the core academic subject areas. Honors classes in all core subjects are part of the high school curriculum. A tutorial program is available for those in need of additional academic support. In addition to its interscholastic sports program, Mead Hall conducts a nontraditional physical education program. Horseback riding is also available in the nearby, 2000-acre Hitchcock Woods.
