Maple Lake Academy
PO Box 175, Payson, UT 84651
The academy conducts a year-round program for girls with verbal and nonverbal learning differences that may contribute to emotional or behavioral problems. Asperger's syndrome and high-functioning autism may also be primary conditions that the student faces. Individually formulated educational plans address specific needs and offer interventions and strategies that deal with visual/perceptual, auditory processing, spatial awareness, conceptual, memory and social skills deficits, as well as emotional and psychological issues. Clinical services form an important part of school life. Each week, girls receive 20 hours of therapeutic interventions. Individual therapy focuses on specific LD and emotional issues, while weekly family therapy addresses both those issues and relevant family dynamics and skill building in communication and relationships. Girls typically spend 10 to 12 months at the academy. The school accepts the following conditions: ADHD, Anxiety Disorders, Asperger's Syndrome, Autism, Discalculia, Dysgraphia, Dyslexia, Emotional Disturbances, Learning Differences, Mood Disorder, Nonverbal Learning Differences, Obsessive/Compulsive Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, School Phobia, Substance Abuse, Tourette’s Syndrome.
