Lyceum Kennedy French American School
225 E 43rd St, New York, NY 10017
This French international bilingual school was founded for the education of French-speaking and American children and formerly used the same methods of teaching as the French school system. A new administration in 1986 resulted in a more international student body, and today the school provides a multilingual education that emphasizes a cross-cultural exchange of ideas. Lyceum Kennedy is accredited by both the French Government and the State of New York. Subjects are taught in English and French, thereby enabling students to achieve fluency in both languages; even the youngest children are immersed in the French language and tradition. Two-thirds of the curriculum is conducted in French, while the remaining third is in English. Some basics of Latin are taught in grade 7, and pupils are introduced to Latin and Spanish literature beginning in grade 8. SAT preparation, as well as American history and government, is required in the senior high school. Older students have Advanced Placement course options and may also prepare for the French Baccalaureate. Graduates earn a high school diploma. Lyceum Kennedy also operates a Westchester County campus in Ardsley (914-479-0722).
