Lycee Francais de New York
505 E 75th St, New York, NY 10021
The Lycee's academic program combines the traditional French program, a strong English program and a selection of courses that, while not required by the French Ministry of National Education, adhere to the educational approach of that institution. Among the school's curricular requirements are French and English language and literature classes, an additional classical or modern language, and course work in the traditional disciplines. Knowledge of French is not required for admission until grade 1; students entering from that level onward must pass a language proficiency exam. LFNY conducts language support classes in both French and English at all grade levels, and pupils in grades 2-4 may enroll in an intensive language integration program. Non-Francophone boys and girls learn French in a small-group setting, then join regular classes the following year. The school's Upper East Side location enables students to embark on frequent field trips to museums, art galleries, and educational and business organizations. Interschool athletic, artistic, musical and literary competitions are commonplace.
