Louisville Collegiate School
2427 Glenmary Ave, PO Box 4369, Louisville, KY 40204
Louisville Collegiate emphasizes a liberal arts curriculum at all levels, with specialized instruction in areas such as art, music and laboratory science. A strong advisory program complements academic and extracurricular life at the school. All subjects are departmentalized from grade 5. World languages commence in junior kindergarten and continue through grade 12. A sequentially structured program emphasizing reading, writing, speaking and listening is used to develop communicational skills. Other aspects of the curriculum are an emphasis on sophisticated technology and a weeklong interim program that enables middle and upper schoolers to explore the outdoors, experience different cultures and engage in project work. To prepare students for independent study projects in the upper school, the middle school emphasizes methods of inquiry: gathering information, analyzing concepts and organizing ideas. Upper school students may choose electives according to their talents and interests. Although Louisville Collegiate does not offer Advanced Placement courses, students may prepare for the AP exam through advanced courses in most disciplines. A progressively demanding community service program begins in the middle school. Boys and girls choose from various international travel and exchange opportunities.
