Lick-Wilmerding High School
755 Ocean Ave, San Francisco, CA 94112
Founded by James Lick and Jellis Wilmerding, the school offers a curriculum that integrates the liberal, technical and performing arts. Students select from a variety of Advanced Placement courses, including French and Spanish language and literature classes. A variety of technical and fine arts offerings is also available. L-W offers a flexible tuition program that allows families who would not expect to be eligible for financial aid to apply for reduced tuition, thus enabling pupils from varying economic backgrounds to attend. During Jellis Block, all grade 11 students participate in a technical arts or visual and performing arts experience in which students work in groups with a faculty member. Junior projects are hands-on and feature real-world application of skills and knowledge. The school runs a five-week summer outreach program that provides tuition-free academic enrichment for local middle school children from low-income households and allows Lick-Wilmerding students to serve as teaching assistants.
