Lancaster Country Day School
725 Hamilton Rd, Lancaster, PA 17603
The Shippen School for Girls (founded in 1908) and the Franklin and Marshall Academy for boys (established in 1787) came together in 1943 to form LCDS. In 1949, the doors opened at the current 26-acre, suburban campus. Country Day provides a college preparatory curriculum based in the liberal arts tradition, with AP subjects, opportunities for independent study, and arts requirements. Competitive athletics begin in the middle school (grades 6-8). Independent, off-campus senior projects include participation in the International Model UN in The Hague, The Netherlands. Annual outdoor expeditions, athletics, clubs, student government, theater, music and field trips supplement the curriculum. LCDS constructed a Habitat for Humanity house as part of its service program.
