796 Lakeview Dr NE, Gainesville, GA 30501
Founded by a group of parents and community officials seeking to establish a college preparatory program for boys and girls in the region, Lakeview now draws students from throughout northeast Georgia to its 88-acre campus. The hands-on lower school program (grades pre-K-5) utilizes the community as an extension of the classroom through field trips and guest speakers. Music, art, drama, Spanish, physical education and technology are elements of the curriculum. These same classes complement the core course work in the middle school (grades 6-8), which provides a transition between the lower and upper schools. Students in the upper school (grades 9-12) engage in a rigorous liberal arts curriculum that features varied athletic, artistic and extracurricular offerings. Technology is integral to the curriculum at all grade levels. Lower schoolers begin acquiring basic skills in prekindergarten, while middle school pupils study elements of robotics, video editing, desktop publishing, keyboarding and Web design. A compulsory laptop program is part of the upper school curriculum, which includes an AP course and classes in different aspects of technology. Lakeview also emphasizes the arts, with students fulfilling a visual arts course requirement. A community service graduation requirement has upper schoolers complete 60 hours of service work during their four years. Boys and girls interested in studying abroad choose from several cultural exchange programs.
