Lake Forest Academy
1500 W Kennedy Rd, Lake Forest, IL 60045
LFA resulted from the 1974 merger of two institutions known for their college preparatory programs: Lake Forest Academy for boys (established in 1857) and Ferry Hall School for girls (founded in 1869). Before the consolidation, the two schools had operated for four years as coordinated academic programs. The academy has occupied its present, 150-acre campus in this suburb on Chicago's North Shore since 1948. The college preparatory curriculum is a rigorous, sequential program comprising a core of studies and a broad range of Advanced Placement and elective options. The seminar program provides guides each pupil in the development of insights about community, participation, leadership, wellness and self. Extracurricular programs are designed to take advantage of Chicago's cultural offerings. All students participate in interscholastic sports.
