Kingswood Oxford School
170 Kingswood Rd, West Hartford, CT 06119
KO is the result of the 1969 merger of Kingswood School for boys and Oxford School for girls. In fall 2003, the middle school (grades 6-8) moved from the former Oxford campus to the main, 30-acre former Kingswood campus, where the upper school (grades 9-12) has long been located. The student body represents a cross section of central Connecticut residents in their religious, social and economic backgrounds. Offering a college preparatory program, the school maintains small classes and close contact between students and faculty. The well-rounded curriculum, which includes course work in English, history, math, science, foreign language, computer science, and the performing and visual arts, culminates in a wide selection of Advanced Placement classes. Independent study is encouraged. All pupils in grades 9-12 satisfy a 30-hour community service requirement prior to graduation. Seniors compose a required thesis during the third quarter of the academic year, and they may also pursue an on- or off-campus project during the last quarter.
