International School of Stuttgart
Sigmaringer Strasse 257, 70597 Stuttgart, Germany
ISS provides an English-language education for a multicultural student body that enrolls from approximately 45 nations. Elementary-level children take part in the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program. Specialists teach music, computers and physical education, and a small portion of the curriculum is taught in German. The middle school, which follows the IB Middle Years Program, serves as a transitional period between elementary school and high school. Middle schoolers experience increased independence; participate in strong music, art and computer programs; and engage in school and community service. During the high school years, pupils follow an internationally recognized curriculum that includes preparation for the SAT examinations. Pupils choose between the two-year IB Diploma Program and the ISS diploma in grades 11 and 12. At all grade levels, programming emphasizes the culture, language and traditions of Germany. Frequent field trips into the local community help students learn about their host country.
