With students drawn mainly from South Africa, other African countries and, in smaller numbers, from Europe, the Far East and the US, ISSA conducts a UK-style curriculum at the elementary and secondary levels. The primary school curriculum emphasizes the acquisition of skills and concepts through the core subjects of English, math and social studies. Additional electives at this level include information technology, art, music and physical education. Pupils enrolled in the secondary school prepare for IGCSE and A-level examinations. An array of business and technology classes supplements the curriculum. As part of their extracurricular program, ISSA assigns specific community service projects each year. Choices include visits to a local children's hospital ward, work at a children's shelter and meal preparation for street children.
