Idyllwild Arts Academy
52500 Temecula Rd, PO Box 38, Idyllwild, CA 92549
Trees and meadows dominate this 205-acre campus, which is set in the pine forests of the San Jacinto Mountains. The academy's location offers students such recreational opportunities as hiking, rock climbing and cross-country skiing. Roads and trails in and around the campus encourage running and cycling. Students receive demanding preprofessional training in the arts and a strong college preparatory education. Academic courses are scheduled in the mornings, balanced by arts courses that meet in the afternoons; both range from introductory to honors levels. Each student's course of study is composed of a combination of the required arts courses for each major and the academic courses necessary to meet graduation requirements in English, history/social studies, foreign language, mathematics, science, physical education and computer literacy. Major areas of arts study include music, dance, theater, visual arts, moving pictures, fashion design, creative writing, singing and songwriting; an individualized arts major is designed for those who have demonstrated high academic achievement and have a strong interest in two or more arts major areas. Performances, publications and exhibition center openings supplement the arts program, while the academic curriculum utilizes hands-on activities, experiments, field trips, cooperative learning and group problem solving. Graduates gain entrance into both colleges and conservatories.
