Hyde School at Woodstock
150 Rte 169, PO Box 237, Woodstock, CT 06281
An outgrowth of Hyde School at Bath (see separate listing), this school was founded in response to a growing demand for Hyde's character-based curriculum. The rural campus occupies a 123-acre site that once served as the location of a Catholic women's college. Hyde's program focuses upon three elements: character development, college preparation and family involvement. All students fulfill requirements in athletics, the performing arts and community service. In addition to traditional grading, faculty and peer evaluations are stressed. An unusual amount of responsibility is given to each student in the overall decision-making and operation of the school. Parents must participate in the Family Education Program, which consists of a three-day, on-campus seminar; regional monthly meetings; twice-annual family weekends; and yearly regional retreats. Acceptance to Hyde is based on a family interview conducted on campus, in conjunction with papers composed after the interview by both the prospective student and his or her parents.
