Howard S. Gray School
7575 E Earll Dr, Scottsdale, AZ 85251
Serving families in Metropolitan Phoenix, Howard Gray provides middle school and high school programming for adolescents with autism, Asperger's syndrome, and emotional and learning disabilities. With a curriculum that emphasizes the development of both academic and social skills, the school considers the student's skills, motivation level, learning style and challenges faced when formulating an educational plan. A group-setting approach facilitates life and social skills development. Lessons address career exploration, body language, social cues, goal setting, bullying, manners and etiquette, self-esteem, empathy for others, assertiveness, honesty, conflict resolution and peer pressure. Career exploration and job interview techniques are also part of the program. Classrooms contain personal computers with Internet access and current academic materials, thereby facilitating individualized instruction. Educational and recreational activities take place in the arts and crafts center, the outdoor sports court, open fields, landscaped patios and, for group discussions, in lounges. The school accepts the following conditions: ADHD, Anxiety Disorders, Aphasia, Asperger's Syndrome, Autism, Diabetes, Discalculia, Dysgraphia, Dyslexia, Emotional Disturbances, Learning Differences, Mood Disorder, Obsessive/Compulsive Disorder, Pervasive Development Disorder, Psychosis, School Phobia, Schizophrenia, Tourette’s Syndrome.
