Founded in Berkeley as the Anna Head School for Girls, this school relocated in 1964 to its present campus. The Josiah Royce School for Boys opened at an adjacent site in 1971 as a coordinate school. Since 1978, Head-Royce has been fully coeducational. The school purchased an additional eight-acre parcel of land in 2013, thereby expanding the campus size to 22 acres. Head-Royce's college preparatory curriculum allows graduates to gain admittance to leading colleges. The cocurricular program is stressed, and there are many interest clubs, publications, and drama, art and music offerings. All boys and girls perform at least 40 cumulative hours of community service in grades 10-12. Students may also participate in and earn credits for an academic year abroad program or a student exchange program.
