Hawaii Preparatory Academy

65-1692 Kohala Mountain Rd, Kamuela, HI 96743

HPA has two campuses in the town of Waimea (Kamuela) on the island of Hawaii. The upper school is situated on 200 acres at the foot of the Kohala Mountains, in the heart of Hawaii's ranching country; the campus housing the lower and middle schools occupies nine acres near the center of Waimea. Students come from the Hawaiian Islands, more than a dozen mainland states and territories, and a similar number of foreign countries. Among the graduation requirements are modern language, fine arts and computer science courses, as well as electives. Advanced Placement classes are available in all disciplines. Students are required to participate in the cocurricular component of athletics and may choose interscholastic competition, intramurals or noncompetitive activities each weekday. Weekend activities include camping trips, scuba diving, shopping trips, excursions and hikes to points of interest on the island, surfing outings and regular Sunday trips to the beach.
