Haverford School Haverford School

Haverford has served boys since its founding. Established at the request of railroad executive Alexander Cassatt and his wife, Lois, under the guidance of Haverford College, the school began as the Haverford College Grammar School. It became independent of the college when it moved to its current location in 1903 and adopted its present name and nonsectarian orientation. The curriculum, with close individual guidance, prepares boys for a variety of leading colleges. Distinctive offerings include schoolwide programs in computer education, music and the visual arts. Although upper school courses do not follow the Advanced Placement curriculum, Haverford's rigorous program prepares students for AP exams in many subjects. In addition to choosing from a variety of semester electives, English literature seminars and advanced laboratory research options, seniors may also pursue an independent study project.
