Hathaway Brown School
19600 N Park Blvd, Shaker Heights, OH 44122
Hathaway Brown traces its origins to the establishment of an afternoon program for girls at Brook School, a church school for boys. In 1886, Anne Hathaway Brown purchased the school and changed its name from Home and Day School to Miss Anne H. Hathaway Brown's School for Girls. HB has occupied its current, 16-acre campus in Shaker Heights since 1927. Hathaway Brown's coeducational preschool consists of an early childhood program serving children ages 2½-5; grades K-12 admit girls only. Qualified students may participate in individual projects beyond the basic curriculum. The adventure learning program, which features a ropes course, is a required element of the middle school curriculum. The traditional college preparatory upper school program is supplemented by honors and Advanced Placement classes in most disciplines, as well as by fellowships in creativity. Special offerings include art, drama, music, photography, computer studies and Broad Horizons summer enrichment for academically and creatively gifted girls. Students enrolled in the school's Science Research and Engineering Program conduct advanced research projects under the supervision of professionals from local universities, hospitals, museums and research centers.
