Originally named Home of the Merciful Saviour for Crippled Children, HMS School is an educational and habilitation center for children with severe disabilities stemming from cerebral palsy or traumatic brain injury. The school's emphasis is on assistive technology (including power mobility and computer-assisted instruction), the development of communication systems for nonspeaking children, and special education and intensive therapy. Nursing services and medical support are available on a 24-hour basis. Parents incur no financial charges when state and local education agencies agree to this approved private school placement. The average length of stay is six to eight school years. The school accepts the following conditions: Cerebral Palsy, Multiple Disabilities, Orthopedic/Neurological Disabilities, Traumatic Brain Injury.
