Greenwich Country Day School

GCDS emphasizes academic preparation while maintaining a varied extracurricular and artistic program. English, math, science and social studies are required at all grade levels, with a conversational Spanish language program and computer education both beginning in kindergarten. Beginning in grade 6, students choose from Spanish, French, Latin, or Mandarin. Art and choral music are offered, and the school has two full bands, piano, drama, and print and wood shops. The regular program also includes two- to five-day trips for students in grades 5-9 to such places as Mystic; Washington, DC; and outdoor education centers in New Jersey and New York State. Upper school students (grades 7-9) purchase required tablet computers through the school. Athletics are required, combining physical education with interscholastic competition in the upper school. Dance, ice hockey and physical fitness balance a standard competitive program. Community service is stressed, with students serving both on campus and in community agencies and institutions. Students complete five hours of required service in grade 7 and 10 hours in grade 8.
