Designed for high-functioning students with neurobiological disorders, the academy provides a full elementary and secondary program within a flexible environment that helps boys and girls develop their strengths and work on their weaknesses. A cognitive-behavioral approach teaches pupils to better manage and regulate their behavior. In grades K-8, the school formulates an Individualized Educational Plan for each student in coordination with the home school district. The multidisciplinary elementary curriculum features course work in music, art and foreign language, and field trips provide enrichment. During the high school years, boys and girls work toward the high school diploma, and the academy also administers New York State Regent and SAT examinations. Vocational training and transition planning are aspects of the high school program. Gersh also provides educational services in Hauppauge, Glen Oaks and North Tonowanda.
