Georgetown Preparatory School

10900 Rockville Pike, North Bethesda, MD 20852

Archbishop John Carroll (America's first Catholic bishop) founded this institution, the oldest Catholic secondary school and the only Jesuit boarding school in the country, as a part of Georgetown University. It has been independent since 1919, when it moved to its present, 90-acre campus across the Maryland line. The school maintains a traditional liberal arts curriculum that prepares graduates for competitive colleges throughout the country. Graduation requirements include four years of English, math and religion; three and a half years of social studies; two years of science, Latin and a modern language; and a year of fine arts course work. In addition to Advanced Placement courses, Georgetown Prep offers accelerated math classes and an honors track in the sciences. Community service requirements are as follows: class project in grade 9, eight hours in grade 10, 12 hours in grade 11 and 50 hours during the summer prior to grade 12. The school's proximity to Washington, DC, permits visits to cultural and historic destinations, including the US Capitol, the National Gallery of Art and the Smithsonian Institute.
