George School

1690 Newtown Langhorne Rd, Newtown, PA 18940

This Friends' school owes its name to its founder, John M. George, whose will provided for the education of the children of Friends and others. The campus is located on 240 acres of wooded countryside in Bucks County, within easy access of the cultural centers of Philadelphia, Princeton, NJ, and New York City. The spirit of the school is in the Friends tradition, and students of every religious, racial and economic background attend from many states and foreign countries. George School's curriculum includes traditional college preparatory courses and a variety of special term electives. Accommodating students with differing learning styles and abilities, the curriculum's four-level system enables students to study with appropriate degrees of intensity in each discipline. GS is one of the only boarding schools in the country that offers the two-year International Baccalaureate curriculum, a rigorous course of study (taken in grades 11 and 12) that often results in a full year of credit earned for US colleges or opportunities for university study abroad. Advanced Placement classes are also available to qualified pupils. An English as a Second Language program serves international students. Complementing its academic offerings, the school provides a wide selection of extracurricular activities in the following areas: athletics, the performing and visual arts, and community service. Each year, students must participate in team or intramural sports, take a yearlong arts course and contribute to the school's cooperative work program. Service projects to coastal Georgia and Arizona's Navajo Nation, as well as international work camps conducted in Cuba, France, South Korea, Israel/Palestine, Vietnam, Nicaragua and South Africa, are part of GS' prominent community service program.
