Friends' Central School

1101 City Ave, Wynnewood, PA 19096

Friends' Central has conducted a comprehensive day program since 1925, when this Quaker school moved to its present middle and upper school site of 23 acres on the edge of the city. The lower school (nursery through grade 4) operates at an 18-acre second campus on Old Gulph Road. Over the years, Friends' Central has enjoyed the direction of a number of notable educators. The integrated course of study begins with an individualized curriculum in the lower school that precedes an increasingly rigorous college preparatory program as students progress through the upper school (grades 9-12). Course work includes many opportunities in the arts and a number of departmental electives. During the final five weeks of the school year, seniors undertake a project of their own design (with the assistance of an advisor) in which they learn about a field of interest and also complete at least one week of service. Upper school student government and faculty conduct a guest speakers program that features authors, musicians, artists, politicians and athletes. Weekly Meeting for Worship is an important aspect of school life. Each upper school student performs at least 40 hours of service annually.
