Frankfurt International School

An der Waldlust 15, 61440 Oberursel, Germany

FIS was founded to provide a college preparatory education for children of the international community residing in the metropolitan area of Frankfurt/Main. The curriculum follows international school models, and the primary language of instruction is English. German is obligatory for most students from grade 1, and children in grades 4-6 take part in a bilingual program. The school enrolls many Americans, as well as high numbers of British and German students. The elementary school follows the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program and emphasizes small-group instruction. Middle school programming continues to build on the foundation laid in the elementary school. Boys and girls in grades 6-10 prepare for the IB Diploma Program, then engage in the two-year curriculum in grades 11 and 12. In addition to the school's regular foreign language options, native speakers may take special Japanese and Korean courses (in grades 10-12 and 6-12, respectively); there are also opportunities for Dutch and Swedish instruction. Throughout the school year, educational field trips supplement classroom work. The campus, located about 10 miles from central Frankfurt, is surrounded by a natural forest near the Taunus Mountains. The school is easily accessible by public transportation.
