Francis Parker School
6501 Linda Vista Rd, San Diego, CA 92111
Parker conducts a college preparatory education that blends a traditional curriculum with the arts and athletics. Each semester, students in the upper school must take five academic courses, one or two electives, and physical education or athletics. In addition, courses in computer, the arts and speech are required. Qualified pupils choose from a selection of AP and honors classes. All boys and girls at this level perform community service: 10 hours during freshman year and 20 hours thereafter. The upper school interim week in February provides an opportunity for in-depth explorations of academic or community service themes and activities. Middle schoolers supplement a traditional academic program with selections from the visual and performing arts and physical education or interscholastic sports. The lower school, which is located on Randolph Street in Mission Hills, emphasizes basic academic and study skills in combination with hands-on experiences. The study of a foreign language begins in junior kindergarten with Spanish.
