Fishburne Military School

225 S Wayne Ave, PO Box 988, Waynesboro, VA 22980

James Fishburne, a student and close friend of Robert E. Lee's, established this school at age 29 with the aim of preparing boys "for the duties and responsibilities of life." The oldest and smallest of Virginia's military schools, Fishburne offers a college preparatory curriculum that is complemented by a full athletic program and such military organizations as rifle and drill teams. Supervised study halls and extra-help sessions are integral to the program, and the school also emphasizes test-taking, critical thinking, writing, reading, note-taking, memory enhancement and time-management skills. Most graduates matriculate at Eastern colleges.
