Carrington Rd, Edinburgh, EH4 1QX Scotland
Located on 85 acres near the center of Edinburgh, Fettes offers an individualized curriculum designed to prepare students for university entrance. Boys and girls in the preparatory school (ages 7-13) follow a curriculum based upon the Scottish course of studies for ages 5-14. Specialists teach English, math, history, geography, religious studies, and personal and social education to children ages 7-9. Gradually, students spend less time with their homeroom teacher; by the last year of preparatory school, specialists lead all classes. During the middle school years (ages 14-16), boys and girls take five core subjects at GCSE level, in addition to five elective choices. In the Sixth Form (ages 16-18), pupils pursue either the A levels or the International Baccalaureate Diploma. Divided into the medieval Old Town and the Georgian New Town, Edinburgh displays a variety of architectural styles. For three weeks each summer, the city hosts an internationally recognized arts festival.
