Established by local citizens interested in addressing the community's need for an independent elementary and secondary school, this college preparatory school serves boys and girls from Fayetteville, Cumberland County and surrounding areas. At the lower school level (prekindergarten through grade 5), children develop basic skills in the core academic subjects while studying in self-contained classrooms. Specialists teach weekly computer, science, Spanish, art, music, physical education and media center classes. Field trips, extracurricular clubs and organizations, and special programs enrich the program. The middle school (grades 6-8) provides a transition between the lower and upper schools. Students continue to work on their basic skills, and the curriculum includes enrichment courses in word processing, computer applications, art, music, band and physical education. First available at this level, interscholastic sports are quite popular, and student government and other extracurricular opportunities are also part of the middle school program. The academy encourages upper schoolers (grades 9-12) to further develop specific interests and abilities in a small-class setting, and academics stress clear expression and creative thinking. Juniors and seniors commonly enroll in Advanced Placement courses.
