Episcopal High School
1200 N Quaker Ln, Alexandria, VA 22302
This renowned boarding school enrolls students from roughly 30 states and 20 foreign countries. Located 10 minutes from Washington, DC, the suburban campus occupies 135 acres. EHS' college preparatory curriculum, which is based on a liberal arts approach, emphasizes analytical, reasoning and independent thinking skills. More than 40 Advanced Placement and honors courses are available, and the school maintains strong programs in the arts and community service. Integrated technology enhances classroom study—all students have laptop computers and classrooms are fully wired for individual network access—and the school's Washington Program (tours conducted each Wednesday) enables pupils to engage in discussions with professionals in fields that relate to course work. Seniors may pursue a month-long internship in which they work on Capitol Hill or with a local organization of personal interest. Summer trips to France, Spain and Italy enhance the foreign language program. EHS also conducts an exchange with a school in Austria, and students may take advantage of additional overseas study opportunities through School Year Abroad. Extensive arts opportunities, extracurriculars and activities supplement academics. Among the varied arts options are offerings in music, drama, the visual arts and dance. The school's athletic program combines interscholastic sports with noncompetitive options such as aerobics, an outdoor program and weight training. Weekends include social events, dorm activities, and excursions to museums and cultural events in Washington, DC. The honor code remains a central part of Episcopal life.
