Crossroads School for Arts and Sciences
1714 21st St, Santa Monica, CA 90404
Located on the West Side of Los Angeles, Crossroads provides a college preparatory curriculum consisting of English, mathematics, science, foreign languages, history, classics and the arts. Physical education, human development and community service are required parts of each student's program. In 2007, the school replaced its Advanced Placement curriculum with internally designed advanced courses. The middle school stresses composition and reading skills in all areas. The upper school supplements the fundamentals with courses in the visual arts, classical music, film, journalism, chorus and dance. Required community service projects include gerontology studies and fieldwork, and government and community internships in grades 11 and 12; middle schoolers perform 10 hours of service annually, while students in grades 9-12 satisfy a 45-hour service requirement prior to graduation. Crossroads also offers performing arts majors in art, music and drama, in addition to a classics program. Crossroads' elementary school (located on Olympic Boulevard) offers a curriculum for children in grades K-5. It features courses in science, computer studies, art, drama, music, dance and service learning.
