Convent of the Visitation School
2455 Visitation Dr, Mendota Heights, MN 55120
This Catholic school was founded when six nuns from the Order of the Visitation, at the request of Bishop Thomas Grace, boarded a steamboat in St. Louis, MO, and traveled north to establish a school for young women in the St. Paul area. Over the years, the school has occupied four different campuses. Today, Visitation comprises an early learning center, a Montessori preschool, a coeducational lower school, a middle school for boys and girls through grade 6—as well as for girls in grades 7 and 8—and an upper school for girls only. Visitation's upper school serves as the only all-girls secondary program in the state. Throughout, emphasis is placed on the fine arts and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math), and a family-like atmosphere and a low student-teacher ratio provide individual attention. An extended-day program serves children in grades K-6. The school's athletic program allows pupils to take part in team sports beginning in grade 5. Community service is an important aspect of school life, and seniors complete a 48-hour project each spring.
