Founded in 1914 by a group of concerned parents, Community School, located on a 16-acre, wooded campus in Ladue, continues to encourage parental involvement in the life of the school. Community provides a full-day program for children from age 3 through grade 6. The integrated curriculum emphasizes reading at all grade levels. Nursery and kindergarten programs utilize a developmental approach, while the curriculum in grades 1-4 emphasizes secure computational and problem-solving skills and features creative writing, science, social studies and language arts. French instruction begins at age 3. Grades 5 and 6 are semidepartmentalized. Students have physical education every day, and art, music and shop each week. Nature and outdoor activities form an integral part of the program.
