Colegio Anglo-Colombiano

Apartado Aereo 253393, 2 Bogota, Colombia

Founded by a group of Colombian and British citizens, the Anglo maintains its links to Great Britain through representation on the school’s board by members of the British Embassy and the British Council. The curriculum also remains connected to that found in the United Kingdom, as the IGCSE exams are part of the program, along with all three components of the International Baccalaureate sequence (the Primary Years, Middle Years and Diploma programs). In prekindergarten, Spanish is the main language of instruction (with a daily English lesson incorporated). The process is reversed in kindergarten, with children studying in English and taking a daily Spanish lesson. This pattern continues in succeeding years through age 7. Specialists teach music, ESL, Spanish as a Second Language and physical education to these children. In the primary section (grades 2-5), the program features English as its primary language of instruction; sports and other extracurricular activities gain in prominence in this division. The demanding secondary school program (grades 6-12) leads to the internationally recognized IB Diploma. Roughly three-quarters of secondary-level classes are taught in English in grades 6-10, while the language of instruction during the final two years depends upon the pupil’s choice of subjects. The IB program at the Anglo fulfills all requirements of the Colombian Bachillerato. Graduates matriculate at colleges in Colombia, Europe and North America.
