500 Christ School Rd, Arden, NC 28704
Established by Rev. and Mrs. Thomas Wetmore, this college preparatory school is situated on a wooded, 500-acre campus in the mountains of western North Carolina. Founded as a coeducational day school, the school has enrolled only boys since the late 1920s. Christ School emphasizes preparation for leading colleges throughout the country. Although affiliated with the Episcopal Church, the school enrolls students of many religious faiths. A work program instituted at the school's founding includes each boy in the supervision and the maintenance of the campus. All students fulfill a 10-hour annual community service requirement, and other service learning opportunities are also available. In addition to an array of interscholastic sports and extracurricular activities, the school conducts a particularly active outdoor program that enables boys to engage in various pursuits in the surrounding Blue Ridge and Smoky Mountain areas.
