Charleston Day School
15 Archdale St, Charleston, SC 29401
Founded by Emily E. Tenney and Mary Stuart, who directed the school until 1971, CDS provides a varied elementary program for children in Greater Charleston. The school has relocated three times to accommodate growth and now occupies quarters in the city's historic district. While Charleston Day places particular emphasis on its core curriculum (math, reading, language arts and science), pupils at all grade levels also take French, computer, art, music and physical education courses. Students in grades 5-8 may take Spanish and advanced math classes (including honors algebra). Special academic programs, team sports and fine arts productions provide enrichment. In addition, each class participates in an annual community outreach project.
