Carolina Day School
1345 Hendersonville Rd, Asheville, NC 28803
Founded upon the merger of Asheville Country Day School (established in 1936) and St. Genevieve/Gibbons Hall School (established in 1908), Carolina Day School enrolls students from seven counties of western North Carolina into its college preparatory program. Computer science, the fine arts, Advanced Placement courses, outdoor education, sports and community service projects are integrated into the curriculum. Children in grades 1-8 with language-based learning differences may enroll in a special program that features language tutorial courses, a 3:1 student-teacher ratio and an emphasis on skill development. In the lower school (grades PS-5), reading instruction progresses from the phonetic Orton-Gillingham approach to a literature-based curriculum. Students in grades 6 and 7 attend single-gender core classes. The school's Summer Quest program offers enrichment in athletics and the arts and sciences.
