First opened in the educational wing of Trinity Episcopal Church to students in grades K-6, the school now enrolls students in an early childhood through high school program. Canterbury occupies two campuses: lower and middle school classes (early childhood through grade 8) are held at the Covington Road campus, while the high school program (grades 9-12) is conducted at the Smith Road address. The curriculum, which emphasizes academic achievement, features a required fine arts course of study and a competitive athletics program. Instruction in French, Spanish, computers and the fine arts begins in the primary grades, where small classes provide for individual attention and development. An accelerated middle school program in all major disciplines includes a four-year science program and mathematics through advanced algebra II. Pupils choose either Spanish or French for four years of study in grades 5-8, and they may add Latin or Japanese as an additional language in grades 7 and 8. High school course work focuses upon accelerated college preparation. An Advanced Placement program offers college-level studies in many disciplines. Canterbury conducts May Term, a three-week interim program, in grades 9-11. Students engage in minicourses during this session, while seniors instead take part in an internship program. To fulfill another high school requirement, boys and girls complete 20 hours of community service in grade 10 and 40 hours in grade 11.
