Canterbury's college preparatory curriculum is marked by high academic standards and rigorous academic requirements. Offerings commence with a prekindergarten program for three-year-olds. The full-day kindergarten programs, for four- and five-year-olds, prepare pupils in reading and math skills while stimulating social, physical and creative development. In the lower and intermediate schools, academic development is augmented by work in the areas of scientific techniques and technology and research skills. Language arts classes foster the development of critical thinking. Opportunities for curriculum-related field trips and culture study are available. The middle and upper schools emphasize traditional academic subjects while providing opportunities for independent research. Qualified students may enroll in Advanced Placement courses, and additional electives are available in the arts, computer science and speech. Boys and girls accumulate at least 50 total hours of required community service in grades 9-12.
