Established as Cabarrus Academy at the Concord residence of textile entrepreneur J. W. Cannon, this college preparatory school assumed its current name in 1998. Lower and middle school instruction emphasizes basic skills and study habits through the study of foreign languages, lab science, physical education, art and music. Beginning in kindergarten, technology is integrated into the curriculum to promote information literacy, creativity and critical-thinking abilities. Instruction progresses from basic graphics and word processing applications to Internet research and multimedia presentations, and students in grades 9-12 receive laptop computers for school use. The upper school curriculum features Advanced Placement and honors options, and seniors complete an independent study project during the spring semester. A partnership with Tianli International School in Luzhou, China, provides for annual student and faculty exchange programs and supplements the Chinese language course offered in grades 5-12. Community service projects are included in the middle school curriculum (grades 5-8), while students in grades 9-12 perform 10 hours of independent service annually.
