Calvert, located in the Tuscany-Canterbury neighborhood, features a curriculum of science, geography, composition, foreign language, art history, music, art and grammar, in addition to the core subjects. The library, science and computer labs and a planetarium provide a solid resource base for students, and the athletic program fosters physical development and sportsmanship. Boys and girls begin to study French or Spanish in grade 2, and all eighth graders study Latin alongside French or Spanish. Each middle schooler purchases a laptop computer from Calvert for school use. Community service is a middle school requirement. A home instruction program (grades K-8), developed and tested in the day school, helps parents to teach supplementary or enrichment courses at home. It is specially designed for parents without previous teaching experience or training.
