Buckingham Browne & Nichols School

80 Gerry's Landing Rd, Cambridge, MA 02138

BB&N resulted from the January 1974 merger of two distinguished Cambridge independent schools, the Buckingham School and the Browne & Nichols School, both of which date from the 19th century. Offering a coordinated program, the school maintains three geographically separate campuses: lower (Buckingham Street), middle (Sparks Street) and upper (Gerry's Landing Road). Students are drawn from many parts of Greater Boston by the broad and challenging curriculum, which is enriched by many extracurricular activities. The school provides a program that meets the individual student's needs. Simple schedules within the lower school emphasize basic instruction in a relaxed atmosphere, while the middle school incorporates participatory activities into student instruction. The upper school program balances core subjects with a wide array of elective courses, including six foreign language options. Opportunities for international study and exchanges are available. Participation in team sports is required in grades 7-9, and pupils total 40 hours of required community service in grades 9-12. BB&N conducts extensive programs in instrumental and vocal music, as well as in the visual arts.
