Boston Higashi School
800 N Main St, Randolph, MA 02368
This international school—which bases its teaching method upon the tenets of Daily Life Therapy, as developed by Kiyo Kitahara—serves children and young adults with a diagnosis along the autism spectrum. Daily Life Therapy acknowledges that children with autism tend to be socially isolated, anxious and sensitive. To address these issues, the methodology employs group dynamics in an effort to further develop communicational and daily living skills, thereby promoting social independence. Emotional stability and self-care skills are the school's primary focus, while extensive physical exercise (as a self-control mechanism) represents a secondary focus. The age-appropriate curriculum features instruction in language arts, math and the social sciences, and staff make necessary modifications to the program to account for differences in ability. Creative activities in the areas of art and music play an important role in the curriculum. The school accepts the following conditions: Asperger's Syndrome, Autism, Pervasive Development Disorder.
